"My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a registered dietitian with the Austin Regional Clinic and I'm going to talk to you about how to eat healthy at IHOP. IHOP has really made an effort to make it easier for you to choose some healthier options. They actually have as part of their menu a section called IHOP for me and they have broken this down into different sections. You can choose low carb options. You can choose low fat options, low calorie or great all around. The great all around options include everything. They are low carb, they're low fat and they're low calorie. By low calorie they mean that particular meal has 600 calories or less and when they're talking about low fat it has 15 grams of total fat or less. The low carb is going to have 15 grams of carbohydrate or less so there are some really good options to look at there. For example for breakfast you could get a garden omelet, that would be a really good choice. They also have different luncheon and dinner options as well. Again there are some very good all around choices. They have tilopia available as an entree. They have a chicken entree available so again not just traditional breakfast items but they have broken it down into a variety of lunch and dinner things that are available and that is truly the easiest way to eat healthy at IHOP. To look at their regular menu is a lot more difficult. The portion sizes tend to be very large. If you are choosing pancakes for example and you are trying to control your blood sugars for example if you are diabetic that is going to have a lot of carbohydrate to it so it is very difficult looking at their regular menu to control things like that like your carbohydrate intake or if you are watching your blood pressure, the sodium content if you are choosing a lunch or dinner option on the regular menu. So again the easiest way to eat healthy at IHOP is to choose from their IHOP for me menu and the best thing from that menu is the great all around choices. As far as beverages you would do best to choose beverages that don't have added sugar so things like unsweetened tea, coffee, diet soft drinks or water. So those are just a few basic tips for how to eat healthy at IHOP."
