"Hello, my name is Penny Smith and I'm a North Carolina real estate broker. Today I'd like to talk to you about how to rent an apartment. Well the first thing you need to do when you're going in to rent an apartment is to talk to the property management people that are taking care of that rental. You need to fill out an application and usually they charge a fee for processing. You need to ask the direct questions, if you have pets you need to find out if that pet is allowed and what is required for you to keep that pet. Most places require a deposit for dogs or cats. Most places also have in apartments, a weight restriction on that pet. So you need to find out whether they will allow you to have your pet. Then you need to proceed to filling out the application. Paying the fee for that application and submitting it. Once everything is approved, then you fill out that contract. Now it is a contract that is legal in binding. It is a lease for that property and you need to know that you are accountable for that lease. It is a legal in binding agreement between you as well as the landlord. It is very specific as to what your obligations and requirements are as well as theirs. If you don't understand that contract, take it to an attorney, let him explain it to you. Those are my recommendations on how to rent an apartment. Thank you and I hope you have a good day."
