"This is Mark Browers from bowersphotography.com in Utah and this segment is called, "Why is light important to photograhpy"? Back when the Frenchman invented photography, he called the photography, photo means light and graphy means etching or sketching your painting. Thus, he called it painting with light and that is the definition of photography. You can't have photography without light. And photography is totally controlled by the light. You have a key lights that create all the shapes. You have shadows that create all three dimensionality. You have highlights. You have accent lights. You need to understand what light does. You also have soft light and hard light. Soft light is diffuse and it wraps around an object; and you have hard light that has very define shadow edges and it creates a very interesting moods and things. And so, depending on the subject or the thing that you want to photograph, use the light to create that mood, to create that photograph."
