"Hi, my name is Stacie Royer and I'm a Career Specialist from Austin, Texas. I'm going to talk to you today about becoming a High School Coach. This type of job is a lot of fun, you get to work with students of all ages, and work with all different types of sports. Sports is definitely the key word in this type of position. You need to have a base knowledge of all different types of sports and know which ones you prefer to work with and which ones you don't. You'll also want to start out by volunteering at some type of junior league, or little league as a coach. So, that way you can gain that type of experience, and even learn from that point what sports you choose to work with, more so than others. From that point, you'll want to receive your four year degree from some type of college or university, and you can even go onto receive a graduate degree, but that's really not extremely necessary in this type of position. You'll also want to receive a teaching certificate. Most coaches that work at different schools, also teach at different classes. So, that's something that you'll want to check out with your state, to find out if a teaching certificate is required. From that point, you can start applying at different jobs as a coach, and then decide if you'll, which job you'll want to accept, from that point on. And, that is how you become a High School Coach."
