"To create a cursor, we're going to open up the energy getting program called gimp. Now gimp is a free program that you can download for free on the Internet. Once the gimp adding program is open, we're going to create a new image by clicking on file and saying new. Now let's give it a width and height that are equal to each other, let's say 100 X 100 and click okay. This is our image that we're going to draw on. I'm just going to do some kind of a little design on here, that's real simple with the pencil. Ahh, let's just type or draw the letters hi. We're going to make this our cursor. To begin, let's resize it to a size that's good for our cursor. Go to image, click on scale image. Let's make it 32 X 32 and click on scale. Now it's a lot smaller, but it's comparable to the size that a cursor should be. Let's save this by clicking on file, going to save us. Now expand select file type by extension and we want to select Microsoft Windows icon. And the folder we want to save it on is our desktop. I'm just going to call this hi.ico; it's important you leave the dot ico and click save. Now let's close gimp and we want to rename this hi file but we have to rename the extension of it. So let's open up a folder, just computer, hold down your alt key and say tools and go to file folder options. Inside of those folder options dialog, click on the view tab and uncheck hide the extensions for known file types, say apply. Now let's close this out and you see we have hi.ico. We want to rename that by clicking on it and saying hi.cur for Windows cursor. It's going to verify that you want to change that and we do. Now let's open the control panel and we want to go to the mouse button. Select the pointer's tab and double click on the normal select. Now let's browse to our cursor we just created, clicking on the desktop and locating hi.cur, select it, saying open and now saying apply. As you can see our mouse cursor is now the word "hi"."
