"Hello, my name is Rebecca Herrick I'm here at Everything Peaceful in Wilmington, North Carolina, to discuss what is a muscle knot. A muscle knot, there are many different types of muscle knots, basically it's anywhere that there is a lack of circulation to a muscle fiber and the muscle fibers end up sticking together kind of like wet spaghetti and what you do as a massage therapist to try to break up a muscle knot is to bring that circulation back to those muscle fibers to get them to run parallel to each other again. So, the muscle goes from feeling tense and tight, kind of like you're going over a speed bump, to more flat and pliable and flexible and supple, and the best way to do that is just to feel underneath the skin, try and feel for those speed bumps. Try and feel for where there's and adhesions which is another word for a knot and try and get that circulation back to that muscle. There are many different techniques to do that but basically that is the idea of treating a muscle knot, which another word for that is an adhesion, and that's what a muscle knot is."
