Series Summary

Massage therapy is a practice with a multiplicity of benefits. Whether it’s a quick rubdown or a full-body treatment, the human touch has practical applications for promoting both physical and emotional well-being. Massage is performed with the use of motion, pressure, tension and vibration on certain areas of the body such as painful or stressed muscles and joints. This allows a release of tension and a return to a homeostatic condition. Beyond general stress relief, massage encourages physical and emotional healing by improving circulation. In this free video series, a licensed massage therapist discusses multiple facets of massage therapy, including massage tables, massage techniques, massage oils and reflexology. Discover the difference between hydraulic and Earth Lite massage tables, find out what deep tissue massage is and practice reflexology techniques. Answers to many massage therapy questions are provided, such as the difference between Thai and Swedish massage. Learn all about massage with this information and these techniques!

Video Transcript

"Hello, my name's Rebecca Harrick, and I'm here at Everything Peaceful Massage Therapy Center, in Wilmington, North Carolina to talk about hydraulic massage tables. There are pros and cons to hydraulic massage tables. The pros would be, well first of all, I guess I should say what a hydraulic table is, and it's one that just raises and lowers electronically through a hydraulic system. The good thing about having the ability to raise and lower the table hydraulically is time efficiency, and also being able to change the height of the table during a treatment without your clying, client having to get up and move during the treatment. So for example, if you want to lower the table for your client who maybe is shorter to easily get on the table in the beginning of the session you can do that, and then raise up to your comfortable working height before you start working on the client. And then for safety reasons, also you can lower it down to allow them to safely get off the table. A small con of having a table like this is the price. It's very expensive, as opposed to a portable massage table, and also its mobility. So, a hydraulic table is not one that you will move around a whole lot because of the weight. And that is my review of hydraulic massage table."
