How to Tell if Someone Is Lying

"Hi, I'm Donna Barnes. I'm a life and relationship coach and owner of NY Dating Coach in New York City. In this clip, we'll talk about how to know if someone's lying. Well, if it's someone that you know very well, and they're acting funny or strange, trust your instincts. Your instincts are usually right, but a big tell tale is eye contact. In a normal conversation, someone makes eye contact at least fifty percent of the time. So if they're really avoiding eye contact with you, that means they're probably being dishonest. If you start asking questions about it and they start getting defensive, that's a big sign that they might be lying. If they're saying contradicting things, they say one thing and then something else and it doesn't really make sense, that's probably a sign. And if they try to change the subject, if they just throw something out there and then they're onto the next thing and you're trying to come back to it, and they don't want to, that's probably a sign that they're lying. So if you know somebody really well, you can genuinely get a sense when they're not being quite how they usually are and that's a good...big sign that they're lying. Trust your instincts.
