"Coach Rudy here, let's talk about lay ups. Again, another fundamental part of the game, just like free throws, just like boxing out, rebounding, dribbling, passing; lay ups, crucial part of the game. Two pieces to the lay up, you have to be able to make both a right handed lay up and a left handed lay up. So, what you do is you practice coming from both half court and full court, dribble all the way down, start out the first time going about half speed so you get your foot work right, alright. If you're going with the right handed lay up over the top, meaning palm in the air, and you jump off your left foot, right hand, left foot. Obviously, that means if you're going with your left foot, palm to the sky, you're jumping off your right foot. Left hand, right foot. There's also a different kind of lay up, which is over hand, which is palm to the ground, which is an extension of shooting a jump shot in the version of a lay up. Still get your feet right, though. Right hand, left foot, palm to the floor. Left hand, right foot, palm to the floor. Put the ball in the square. The most important part of the lay up is put the ball in the square. Once you've done that going half speed, then you go full quart, half quart, full speed. Get your foot work right, put the ball in the square, get your full extension on the palm, alright. Make sure you get your feet right, make sure you get your feet right, make sure you get your feet right, put the ball in the square. That's how you shoot a lay up."
