"Today, can be really hard to make food choices. Should I eat fat-free? High carbohydrate? Low carbohydrate? High protein? Low protein diet? Seems like everywhere we look, it's really difficult to understand, where are the calories coming from our food? Particularly, the fat calories. Hi, my name is Jani Roberts, and I'm a Personal Trainer, and also a graduate of the American Academy of Nutrition. Today, I'd like to share with you how you can calculate the calories that you're receiving from your food, that are actually from fat. Now, we know fat burns very slowly. It's essential to the diet. We have to have it, in order for everything to work correctly, but today we're getting a lot more than we really need, so let's take a look at it. First of all, remember that one gram of fat, equals nine calories, so this makes it really easy to calculate, so for example. Let's say you're eating some type of meal replacement bar, or a protein bar, or just a cereal bar, of some sort, and the total calories is two hundred and ten. By understanding that one gram of fat is nine calories, and knowing on the label, that there are ten grams of fat in the bar. You know that ninety of the two hundred and ten calories that you're taking in, are actually coming from fat, so it's pretty easy to see that this is almost fifty percent. Certainly, it's not a good idea to be eating something, when the calories are almost half or more than half, coming to you in fat. We need a little bit more balance with those carbohydrates and protein. You can use this little formula, in anything that you're eating. It will make a big difference, and really help you to understand how the calories are coming from fat. I'm Jani Roberts. Thanks for joining."
