"Hi my name is Michael Quebec over here at the Heritage Kickboxing Gym in Union City, and today's subject is how to block a straight punch in Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do, of course, is Bruce Lee's concept and theories on martial arts. Of course, the late great Bruce Lee took different concepts from Wing Chun Kung Fu, fencing, and western boxing. Instead of me standing with my left hand forward and my power hand, my right hand, behind like in conventional boxing, I'm doing the exact same stance but I'm assuming a south paw stance because the idea is to have your strong side forward. Outside of that, concepts for dealing with punches are very much like in western boxing. So if a punch comes, instead of doing a wide karate type of block or any of these karate-style blocks, what you would do if a straight punch comes, is just a little parry. Just like in boxing. So there it is, inside parry or parry with a slip at the same time to give me added defense, and that is one way to block a straight punch in Jeet Kune Do. My name is Michael Quebec. Thank you."

on 12/7/2008 There is no official block. If the block you want to practice works for you, then that is an official block. THE WAY OF "NO WAY". An `official block` goes against Bruce`s fighting method.
There are no official moves in Jeet Kune Do.
Hope this helps.

on 9/24/2008 Is there such thing as an official block in the Jun Fan JKD curriculum? The name 'The Intercepting Fist' implies that you use your offense as your defense, instead of blocking, you strike first. But i understand why you do the boxing style block, and you probably know more, you are an instructor.
