So in being the alpha, you have to be okay with what you do to your dog, and what's acceptable to you, and enforce those rules. Consistency, repetition, and praise, is the best way to get the most out of your dog, and it's the kind of rules they live by in nature, so it's a kind of language they understand. And by consistent corrections, they learn to get a trust through the leash, with you, and they start to look to you for direction. So part of that bonding happens on the walk, on the walk is when you establish your dominance with your dog, and he walks behind you, never in front of you.
