"Hi, my name is Mike Sanders, and I'm here to tell you a little bit about keeping away the old wetsuit rash, when you're out in the water. It's really easy to avoid, and there's a couple of real simple ways, to stay away from wetsuit rash. One of them, is really making sure your wetsuit fits. That is the most important thing. I cannot stress it enough. If you have a baggy wetsuit, it will rub. It will be uncomfortable, and it will not help you surfing at all. It will slow you down, when you're trying to paddle. You really got to make sure you don't have any loose baggage, especially in the armpits. That's where you get a lot of rashes, up on the chest, where your board and your body make contact. If there's room to move, your wetsuit will slosh back and forth. You really don't want that. You want it to be stuck to your body, behind the knees, the crotch area, got to keep it nice and fit, and close to your body as possible. The wetsuit should move around your body. It shouldn't slide up and down, against your skin. Another good idea is to keep your wetsuit clean, keep it maintained. If there's any little tears, fix it before it gets bigger, because you get a big tear. Tears create loose spots. Loose spots rub, and that gets your rash. It's a good idea to keep it rinsed. After you're in the salt water, come home, rinse it off with the hose, hang it up. Saltwater is pretty harsh. It can dry out your wetsuit. It doesn't keep it as flexible. It doesn't keep the neoprene as ductile as you really want it. One of the things, is invest in a rash guard, which is always nice for the summer months, when you're out there, and you don't even need a wetsuit. Rash guards are thin layers of neoprene, that protect you from rubbing, pretty much. They can go between your wetsuit, and your body, or just over your body, in between you and the board. That's pretty much how to keep away from a wet suit rash."
