"Hi, my name is Mike Sanders and I'll tell you a little bit about training for riding your short board. It can get pretty tiring if you're not used to short boarding at all. When you're short boarding, there's two things you really got to think about. One is how you're going to get out there and how you're going to catch the wave, and two is how you're going to move it around when you're on the wave. That pretty much breaks it into your upper body, getting you out there, getting you into the waves, and your lower body performing to do maneuvers on the wave. So what really helps, in my opinion, is swimming. Swimming, you can't beat it. It builds up your core strength, gets you good arms, it gets you good back also. Your back is really important to strength. Your lats right here do a lot of paddling, a lot of control right there in your back. For lung capacity, bicycling is really good. It keeps your legs, it's great for your legs when you're going to be making your turns. You need good quad strengths, good hamstrings. Running also, very applicable. Keeps your lungs in good working order. Works out your legs a little bit. Doesn't do much for your upper body, but it keeps you good lung strength. And that's what you really want. Good upper body to get you into the wave, good lower body to keep you control in the wave, and good lung strength so you can turn around and do it again seven more times and still have fun while doing it. And that's pretty much the best way I can say to train for short boarding."
