"Coach Rudy, Big Ten Alumni, we're going to have a little fun just for a second. Let's talk about flag football. A lot of you guys played in high school, played in college, and yeah, for some reason, can't let the dream go. That's OKay, I went through it, I've got the T-shirt hanging up in my closet. Alright, designing a defense for flag. There's a number of difference ways to do it. I basically created one called box and chase. Here's what that entails. Three guys on the down line scrimmage, two guys go up the field and try to box in the quarterback. Can not let him get outside your contain. Can not do it. Again the nose guard has got to create some kind of chaos. The three inside guys, the three inside linebackers, are all looking for passes underneath. They're flying out and dropping back. Alright, that's a three, three layer. So now you've got five other guys to play with. You got two corners, three deep guys. So, what I think makes sense is to alternate responsibilities between your corners and your deep guys. Between your corner and your linebackers, have them fly in, have them have deep corners, sometimes blitz. Have the linebackers cover. Sometimes have the corners go to the linebackers spot, have the linebackers come up underneath in order to create chaos and disrupt the underneath stuff. Sometimes you can have your corners fly out, have the safeties go there, you take away the seam stuff and all the quick hit routes, and sometimes you can have your safeties actually switch with the linebackers come and cover the underneath stuff, have the linebackers fly out looking for some of the more intermediate stuff. It all works, it's very fun, creates chaos, you'll have a lot of fun, run the box and chase if you're playing flag football."
