"Another Connecticut giant was the New Haven Clock Company. You probably don't have to guess where they manufactured their clocks. They had a predecessor in Chauncey Jerome. We talked about him and the importance of developing the Ogee Clock. The New Haven Clock Company kind of evolved from the time when Jerome got real big and then there were economic setbacks. He actually became partners with P.T. Barnum briefly. They all went bankrupt trying to make clocks at a bad time and when the dust settled we ended up with The New Haven Clock Company which again made millions of clocks into the 20th Century and you'll see a lot of those around. The Tran Duy Ly book again gives you the history and the many styles of New Haven. I have an example here of a New Haven Clock, a steeple clock, a later model. We will talk more about the style later but this is later than the ones we looked at before and a great reverse painted glass and inside we see the label which you want to see when you open it up. This one obviously is in nice shape, never stood in a puddle or in an attic to get worn but this proves that we have a very nice New Haven eight day steeple clock here. This is the time to talk about this for a minute as well because if it is eight day usually the winding holes are lower down because the movement is bigger."
