"When buying a pony, you first want to just see what the temperament of the pony is like. Usually ponies are bought for children and inexperienced riders so temperament is probably the most important thing. On the cross ties, you want to see that they're calm, quiet, easy to deal with. And then you can start to look at they're confirmation. Like with any horse you want to see that they're well proportioned, that they have clean legs, that their feet are proportional to their body. And then the next thing you want to do is ride them. First, have their owner ride and then have you ride. And you want to see that they're not spooky, they're quiet, they're easy to ride. And of course as always before you actually buy the pony, you want to have a vet examine it to make sure that there's no hidden problems. When buying a pony, the other thing you have to do is have them measured. And actually your vet can measure them just to give you an objective person measuring them, just to make sure that they are actually a ponies. And also if you plan on competing in one of the pony divisions you need to know exactly what their height is to see which pony division they're qualified for."
