To get started with turning we need to have a lathe. That's the most important thing. Now you can go from big full size lathes as you can see over here that can cost over several thousands of dollars. In fact I know of some that cost 6 or 7,000 dollars. But most guys get started nowadays on the mini lathes. The mini lathes are so nice because they are very portable. You can move them around quite easily and you can find these mini lathes going from oh from, $150 to $400 and they really do a good job. They have started to build them with good quality, good heavy parts. We'll show you the parts a little bit later but the mini lathes are a good way to go on that. Now once you get your lathe it comes pretty well set up with what you need to do like a simple project like a twig pot. You're going to need to buy some tools and you're going to need a spindle gouge, a skew, and a parting tool and with those three tools you're ready to go. You can turn a twig pot, you can turn pens, you can do little goblets, you can do some simple little bowls all on the mini lathe with relatively little cost and not much space. With not more space than this. We are going to go on to show you the tools a little more up close later on that but also next we are going to show you some projects right now that you can do on the mini lathe or even on the big full size lathe.
