Hi, I'm James with JNC Home Repair. Today I am going to show you how you solder wires. Okay, we are going to use some pretty common basic copper wiring. Okay, what I'm going to do is just demonstrate how to solder these two pieces together and make them one. Okay, what we are going to do is the first thing we are going to do, we've had our soldering iron plugged in for a while and we have been allowing that to get hot. It takes about five minutes to get it to its full heating capacity where it will actually melt the solder, okay? And once you have got your two wires pretty much that you want to solder together, together, you want to go ahead and just mold them together just like so, okay? Depending on what kind of solder you are using if you are using a lead-free solder or a silver solder there are lots of different types of solder you can use for different types of metals, this is a lead-free solder here and you might want to recommend using a water soluble flux to go with it. It will actually help bond and help the solder actually adhere to the copper a lot better because they are two different types of metals. Okay, so basically what we have is these two wires here. What I'm going to do is I'm just going to let them set here just like there. I've got me a piece of solder already tore off my roll. I'm going to take this piece of solder here and I'm just going to have it sit here just like that and take a little bit of this flux and what I'm going to do is I'm just going to actually dip my wire down into the flux and that way my flux is on my spot where I want to do my soldering. Okay, once that is in there just like so you are going to take your soldering iron and take your piece of solder and all you are going to do is you are going to press your solder gun right here on your joint and you are going to see that the flux actually starts to melt and once you get that hot you just take your solder and push it right in between the gun and what you are trying to solder together and it will actually start melting and sticking together. Once you get it good and hot it will melt right through there and bond it all together and that is how you solder two wires together.
