"Hi, I'm Mike Mugford, I Pastor Friendly Street Church of God here in Eugene, Oregon. I've Pastored here for about 20 years. I've been asked to talk to you a little bit about what kind of tools you might use as a Pastor. Obviously, you've got to like to study, it'll be one of the major tools. Your books, commentaries, bible dictionaries, lexicons, obviously the Bible, and being a student of the Bible is crucial. You also need to be willing to have mentors. I'm in a coaching situation right now with someone in a business situation whose coaching me about organization and doing some work with me there. You've got to be willing to learn from everybody you meet. You also, I think, need to read widely. Don't just read on Biblical subjects, because your people are reading Time magazine, they're watching CNN, they're going to movies, they're listening to music, that you need to at least be abreast of and understand, not necessarily enjoy it all, but how the feeling for it, because that's where you're people live. The Internet also is an amazing tool today. You can find almost anything about the subjects that you might be preaching on or teaching on, on the Internet. It's an amazing, an amazing tool. Listening to people is probably another real tool. You've got to be able to listen to what the needs of your people are. You don't want to answer questions that nobody's asking. So, those are kind of some of the tools. Obviously schooling, seminars, going and visiting other churches and seeing what they're doing. All of those things can help."
