"My name is Amy Erinberger, and I'm going to tell you about how you can get started as a commercial model. Generally, what you want to do if you're in an area that has a large market, there will be modeling agencies ready to see you on certain days that they call open call days. So you want to contact these agencies and find out when their open calls are and go in and introduce yourself. If you make a good impression on your agent, they will direct you to photographers who will help you put a portfolio together. If this agency is not reputable, they may try to get money from you, in terms of teaching you things, act as a school, that sort of thing. And generally, these are not bona fide agencies. So don't get sucked into that trap, because that's a very popular one. So you're going to basically go straight into shooting photographs for your portfolio. And then your agent will help put together a composition card, a comp card, which will be your business card. And they will give these out to clients who come to the agency to find models. So they're your liaison. They'll find the clients for you. They'll create your rate. And they'll instruct you as to how to perform on each job. And generally you can pick up how to work as a model from your agent or from other models that you work with. So if you're feeling like you need information, ask everyone you're working with, and they will help you out."
