"You know, one of the animals that can cause us a great deal of pain and discomfort is the common scorpion. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni, and what I'm going to talk about is how to treat the common scorpion sting. Scorpion stings are not commonly encountered across America; however, keep in mind, scorpions can be poisonous. The first step is to identify that you have in fact been bitten or stung by a scorpion. If you experience a little bit of stinging, or burning, or even numbness in the area, you can treat that area yourself by washing with soap and water, and applying ice at frequent intervals; on and off, to reduce swelling and pain. However, if you experience hyperactivity, blurry vision, muscle twitching, or different levels of consciousness, it could in fact be the bite of a poisonous scorpion. If this has occurred, medical attention will be needed. Contact your local poison control center. Let them know that a scorpion sting has occurred, seek advice from them, and then transport the patient to a medical facility for treatment. The scorpion sting is not a common animal sting in the United States; however, if and when it occurs, you must be able to differentiate between the common scorpion sting and the poisonous scorpion sting. I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Stay safe, and we'll see ya' next time."
