"You know, few things are as frustrating as the common itch. Associated with the mosquito bite that we all suffer. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni. And what I'm going to talk about is tips on how to avoid having an infection occur from the common mosquito bite. First and foremost, try not to scratch the area. Clean the area with soap and water to remove any dirt and germs. If the area can be treated with some type of antihistamine, or even a hydro cortisone topical cream. This will help reduce the itching activity. If the itching activity is so severe that you can't avoid scratching, trim the fingernails so that the fingernails will not break open the wound. If infection does occur from scratching, the problem will be even worse. We can take hot compresses and apply them to the area if it has been scratched open or broken open. And we can apply ice and keep the area clean monitoring for signs of infection. The key thing for avoiding in the first place any infection from a mosquito bite, is not to scratch and break open the bite area. I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Stay safe, and we'll see you next time."
