"Hi everybody I'm John Graden from the Martial Arts Teacher's Association and JohnGraden.com. How do you tie your Judo or Karate belt? This will be fun. Understand the martial arts as we know them typically are associated with the east. The Japanese are very ritual oriented. There is a right way to do everything and there is a wrong way. Typically they like to do things the right way, even just serving tea is an entire ritual. So, tying the belt is a very serious process in traditional eastern martial arts. Typically even the belt's not supposed to touch the ground. Here's how I like to tie the belt. This is a size five black belt. You can see it's really long, a lot longer than most of you would think. I'm going to fold it in half and then I'm going to fold it in half again. So, I'm going to quarter it. Now, I'm going to take one of those quarters and I'm just going to hold it to my hip right here and let that fall. I'm going to take the rest of the belt and wrap it around my waist. Taking the long end, laying it right on top of the other belt. I'm going to take my thumb and hold it. Then I'm going to take my hands, hold it in place, lay it on top again and bring it around. It's kind of like tying a tie I guess. So, that I've got both of my ends in front. Then I'm going to shuffle it around and make it pretty even. Then here's where we tie the knot. I'm going to take that left one, the one that I've been using to work the whole time, over the top, under both belts, whap, shuffle again, make them even, and then I'll take the one that's on top one more time, over and under. Then this is the cool part. Pop. That's an anchor of power, when I pop my belt. So, there you go. That's how you tie your martial arts belt whether it's Judo, Karate. That's it. I'm John Graden for the Martial Arts Teacher's Association. I hope that helps. Thanks"
