Summary: Pros and cons of being a motivational speaker revolve around the amount of traveling required for the job. Weigh the pros and cons with tips from a motivational speaker in this free video on career information.
"Alright, so there are some pros and some cons. And again, that's an opinion thing, you can probably talk to 20 motivational speakers and get 20 different answers about the pros and cons about being a motivational speaker. And I can tell you from my prospective, that the pros and cons are also the goods and bads if you will, or also the bads and goods. Meaning, I enjoy travel, so one of the things about me being a motivational speaker across the United States and Canada, is I travel a lot to get there. For instance, the day after tomorrow I'm leaving to Indianapolis to teach for a day. Which means I fly on Wednesday, teach on Thursday, come back on Friday. And that's a quick round trip to go 2/3 of the way across the United States. And I love that part, I love my time in the hotel room alone. I like my time on the airplane. Because I travel a lot, I often get bumped into first class. I consider that to be fun. I'm almost like a 51year old child enjoying my time on airplanes and traveling, and in airports and etc. But that can also be the bad, the traveling can also be the bad, the time away from my family, my two sons, and the people I love here at home. The good things could be the networking with great people all around the United States and Canada. One of the things I do besides speak and teach is, I sell real estates. So obviously that promotes my business here in Northern California. So other people needing a real estate or help in Northern California, have heard me speak and say, "great, we'll call Rick". And those are all bonuses that happen with it. The other thing is the improvement with my own life, and my own business. You can't constantly teach and speak about something, without it having a dramatic effect on how you live your life, how you do your business and etc, because you can't continuously teach something and live a completely different way, or do it a completely different way without being consider a fraud or a fake. So for me the travel, the fun, the networking, all of those things add up to both the pros and the cons, depending on where you are in your life and time. Again, I think for me staying away from my family for any too extended period of time does start to hurt emotionally, but I think that the pros way out weigh the cons, or I don't think anybody would do it. So, I'm telling you I'm having a blast doing it. I do miss my family once in a while, but I love going out on the road and doing it."
