Sewing Back Loop Buttons

"OK, so I'm ready to show you how to sew on this button. And this button has just one loop in the back and it just goes right through the side of the button and what I'm going to do is I'm just going to make a loop on where the button used to be. And I just cut it off so I know it's just right here, right here on the edge. So I'm just going to make a little loop, instead of coming through the back side, I like to start on the front side and just grab a piece of fabric and the reason is because I like the knot to be on the top of the fabric as opposed to the back. There's already going to be a knot on the back and I just like to have one on each side. So now that we have it on here we want to grab the button and put the needle through one side and it's going to come out the other side. There we go and just run it down right there. And now so I'm just going to make another hole just about as wide as this area right here on the very bottom of the button here right next to the thread, there we go. Sometimes we just have to hold the button and let it slide down. Just pull it a little bit, there we go. And I'm going to sew about three loops around this. I always find three to be good and just keep in the same holes that you made initially. And if you miss them, that's OK, you don't have to be exact because this garment as you can tell has a lot of fuzzies on it and even if you weren't exactly in the right holes you would never even be able to tell. So I think this would be the third one. Just come out around the top. Make sure you actually put it through the hole. There you go and back down onto the back side of the garment and now we're ready to tie this off. Here we go and we want to make the same kind of square knot that we did when we tied the thread on with the needle. Just go around it, and pull pull pull, and when you get close just grab the button with your finger and your forefinger, pull tight. And I like to make two knots just to make sure it doesn't come loose. And you go around this side of the thread, pull, grab them again, and just make sure that the knot just winds up at the right spot. And it always does when you do that. There you go. And now I'm just going to snip it. I'm going to snip about a fourth of a way from the knot that I had made. There we go and that's how you sew on a button with the loop on the back. And on this garment, what I'm going to show you how to do next is to make a new button catch out of thread because this is so small and it broke and my daughter wants to be able to wear this. So I'll show you how to do that next."
