"The coil is a hour glass shaped metal wire that's designed, what happens is when you lay on it it compresses down and the more it compresses down, it pushes up. And that is your support system in any inner spring mattress. Then what you need after that is, you need something that you get pressure relief from and they have filling materials on the top such as foams to alleviate pressure points. So that those two combinations, one is your support and one is your pressure relieving. And so your less expensive beds you're not going to get as much of that support or pressure relief. The coil system is very important to an inner spring mattress because that's giving you all your support. Remember that the coil system is your support level and the amount of coils you have in there is important for example a bed with high coil count will have a lesser gage wire and what that will do is offer good support with good contouring also. And then your lesser coil counts are going to be thicker gage wire and those are going to be firmer but not as many coils and they're not going to contour as well as your higher coil count with thinner gage wire."
