"In this tape we're going to talk about how to become a cop. But I think the first thing that we need to probably clear up is that the proper terminology when you want to address a police officer is a police officer and not a cop. You have very different types of police officers, again, whether it's federal, state, or locals, or even state troopers. Now how do you become a cop. Depending on what area you're living in, again, I would suggest that you take a look at the internet system which is a good marketing tool, and you seek out what department that you're interested in. Look at the qualifications and see if you actually qualify because most departments will have minimum qualifications. You must have a high school education. Some require college education. You must be drug-free for the last three to five years in most agencies. You must complete an extensive background check, and a polygraph is very important. I say that because on your application make sure you're very honest because those same questions that you put on the application, you may see some of those questions again. And there is a percentage of people who don't get past the polygraph because they lied on the application."
