"In this tape we are going to talk about how to become a private investigator. A private investigator for the most part is a nonactive police officer position. For instance like in the state of Florida what you have to do is you have to actually apply with the state of Florida. After a complete gruesome background check is done on you for lack of better words, if you successfully complete the background phase, what they will do is they will go ahead and issue your license. And in order to do that again you have got to be very honest about the information that you supply on the application because they will do an extensive background check on you, whereby they will go back to jobs that you have listed on the application and they will talk to former supervisors that you have worked for. Most private investigations in the state of Florida are former police officers who have retired from other agencies whether they be local, state or federal. Your training that you get as PI in our state is basic training that you get on your own because it doesn't really require any additional training once you get hired. On the job training is very important but we do suggest that you do get additional training as you progress in that field."
