"You know consumer fireworks can be a great fun device to have during parties and the holiday seasons. Hi I'm Captain Joe Bruni with over three decades of firefighting and emergency medical service experience. What we are going to talk about is a general basic rule of thumb when it pertains to safety with consumer fireworks. When we are talking about fireworks that either project or launch. The common bottle rocket or the roman candle are such type devices. A glass or metal container should never be used as a mortar tube or a launching device for these types of devices. An accident or a failure can occur causing that container to fracture and fail sending sharp pieces of either broken glass or fractured metal as pieces of shrapnel which could injure not only the shooter but also by standers that are at the event. To reiterate, a glass or metal container should never be used as a mortar tube or launch tube to launch something as simple as the common commercial firework known as a bottle rocket, roman candle, or the common firecracker. I'm Captain Joe Bruni, stay safe and we will see you next time."
