"Let's talk now about another technical term called a barrel swivel. One of the most frustrating things when ice fishing is when your line starts to twist up on you, and it the lure, because of the action of the lure, when you put it down it wants to twist, and twist, and twist, and then when it gets down to the desired depth, and you stop, it wants to twist its way back; to undo that the twist in the line. One of the best ways to avoid this is to use a barrel swivel, as you can see here, and all that is is a small swivel that can actually twist on itself so it almost rolls like a barrel. And that's a great way to connect your main line to a lighter leader, or to a fluorocarbon leader, not only because it's a good strong connection between the two lines, but again, because it's going to avoid the line twists that these jig lures can create, and when your jig is twisting, and twisting, and twisting it doesn't look natural to the fish, and it's not something they're going to bite."
