"Let's talk about another way to drill a hole in the ice, and that's using a power auger. This is the most efficient and fastest way to do it. It's also the most expensive. Power augers these days cost anywhere from three to $600. So it is a big investment, but if you ice fish a lot, it's very worthwhile to get one and I would highly recommend it. You can get them, typically they come in 8 and 10 inch models. For me an 8 inch auger is just fine for the species I want to fish for. If you're going for really big fish like trophy lake trout or pike, you might want a 10 inch auger. Again with any cutting implement you want to be very cautious of the blade. The blades on these are extremely sharp. Always cover them when not in use, and be conscious of where they are. But as you'll see they're extremely quick to cut a hole with (Drilling Sound)."
