"Hello I'm Cheri Ashwood, I'm a guidance counselor and today I'm going to tell you how much does a fashion designer make. My research showed that fashion designers make an average of about 60,000 dollars a year, but I would think that a fashion designers income would be fairly low until you were well established in the industry. There are art colleges and technical schools that offer 2 year programs in fashion design and in textiles. But there are also 4 year colleges and universities that offer degrees in fashion design, and I would strongly suggest if you want to be taken seriously as a fashion designer to have some credentials behind your name. Of course raw talent is going to be a must. A fashion designer should also have good knowledge of fashion trend, business, and marketing. It's an excellent area for entrepreneurship. If you decide to be a fashion designer and have your own whole line of clothes, or if you're going to work for a particular fashion house and work with a team of designers. I would also suggest that you speak with your high school guidance counselor and look into different areas of the country where fashion design is going to be more in demand. Of course New York and California are going to be some of the most popular places for fashion designers. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to get comfortable with a sewing machine. A knowledge of how to put clothing together in addition to being a fairly good sketch artist to get your ideas across, would make you valuable in the fashion design industry. This is a profession where you pretty much make your own way. I'm Cheri Ashwood, I'm a guidance counselor, and your future starts today."
