"To teach your dog how to bark on command, first you need to know what thing or what opportunity you can get that your dog will bark. For example, if you knock on a door or somebody knocks on a door for you, will your dog bark in response? Once you know what creates an opportunity for your dog to bark and what makes your dog bark, then when your dog barks you can mark that bark with a clicker would be a good example and then reward it until eventually your dog is looking at you and barking without you asking for it in any other way other than standing there. And then we might mark it with the clicker when she does speak. Then we mark that. Give her an opportunity to bark again. And then mark it again. Until eventually she's offering it and we can say speak and we get the behavior and we can reward that behavior."
