"Hi, I'm Nancy Frensley. I'm the training manager at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society, in Berkeley, California, and I'm talking today, about standard poodles. Poodles are of all sizes, are really, really wonderful pets. They are very, very versatile. There are people that even herd sheep with poodles, and I think there was somebody that actually put together a sled dog team, made of poodles, at one time, and ran them in the Iditarod, so a poodle, is your basic, versatile family dog. Your standard poodle is very, very large, and what your standard poodle is going to be doing, as you go along, is they're going to be offering you, all sorts of different fun behaviors. Poodles like to have fun, and if the song, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, was written for dogs, it would be written for poodles. Poodles just want to have fun, so you've got to give them an outlet for that, in terms of helping them learn tricks, and do things for you, and all the things that poodles are able to do. In terms of care, the thing you have to pay most attention to, is their grooming. You can send your poodle to a grooming shop, which is the best thing to do, with people that know how to groom them, or you can get a video, and learn how to groom your poodle yourself. You can go anywhere from wild hair styles, to just your basic puppy cut, with a poodle, so if you're in to hair, and you like to be a hairdresser, a poodle will be a good dog for you."
