"Hi I'm Nancy Frensley, of the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society, I'm the training manager here in Berkeley, California. And this is Slick. Slick is a border collie, and the subject for today is to talk about caring for collies. The border collie is a kind of collie. There are rough collies, there are smooth haired collies, and in general, these are herding dogs. So caring for these dogs, they usually have really rough and tumble coats. Their coats don't need a huge amount of care, they do need regular brushing. They need they are an active dog and they are going to want to round up everything in sight. They make great family dogs, border collies and rough and smooth collies alike. Their primary behavioral instinct is to gather. They make a good family dog cause they'll round up your children. In general these dogs need very little care of their coat ,they need a good diet, they do need lots of exercise and they are what we call bitable. So collies and border collies alike need to be busy. They need to have a job, come on sit, and they need to have, they need to have things to do. Even if it's just you know picking up your child's dirty socks on the floor. Right. Ok. Because like Slick, they are going to get a little restless if they are left on their own too long."
