"Hello. My name is Staff Sergeant Montgomery with the United States Marine Corps Recruiting Office in West Valley City, Utah. Today we're talking about how to become an officer in the United States Marine Corps. First and foremost, to be an officer, you must have earned, or attempting to earn a four year degree. You must also be able to do a minimum of about ten pull ups, ninety crunches in two minutes, and run three miles in under twenty four minutes. This is just the minimum. A perfect score would be three miles in eighteen minutes. A hundred crunches in two minutes, and twenty dead hang pull ups. If a candidate meets these requirements, he or she would then submit a package to be reviewed by officers of the Marine Corps. If accepted, and the candidate already has a four year degree, he or she will then be sent to training in Quantico, Virginia for a ten week training course which mainly focuses on leadership. If he or she graduates the course, they will then be commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. For those candidates who do not possess a four year degree, but are enrolled and attempting to possess a four year degree, you can actually apply and get accepted to the Marine officer program. If accepted, the candidate will then be sent to training at OCS during the summers of their sophomore and junior years. Once all training is complete, and the candidate has obtained a four year degree, he or she will then be offered a commission in the United States Marine Corps. There is no obligation that the candidate does now have to accept the commission in the Marine Corps.
