"The chief problem you're going to get with the diamond parting tool, or any parting tool as an example, is having it bind up inside the cut. And typically, these are with deep cuts. You're getting it in, and what you actually get, and you can see a little bit inside here, is the area's polished and almost burning. If you need to go in very deep, the best solution I've come across, is get yourself just to the side, like a sixteenth of an inch, go down. Go down until it starts binding or by getting very difficult to move. Then come back, and just take a very light cut. If you don't need a specific width, this will allow you to get down to almost nothing into the wood."
