on 7/29/2009 I agree wholeheartedly with your premise of using pantyhose as a first layer of clothing for cold weather hunting or other outdoor activity. However, you may not be aware of the existence of ActivSkin Legwear for Men (www.activskin.com). ActivSkin is constructed very similarly to women's pantyhose or tights, but they are tailored to male body proportions, even to the extent of having a fly opening. I've been working on publicizing this product to the various hunting, fishing and outdoorsman magazines to bring it to their attention. I host a blog called The Nylon Gene (www.nylongene.com) in which I explore many different applications of ActivSkin, of which outdoorsman activities are but one of many. I would like to correspond with you further on this matter if you are interested in discussing cold weather applications further.

Video Transcript

"In this clip we're going to talk about the first layer of clothing for sub zero hunting. The first layer of clothing should be ladies pantyhose. Ladies hosiery will actually take the body heat from your groin and transfer it right straight to your toes. A lot of guys have a little problem with this, but if the professional football players can wear hosiery while they're playing games in cold weather, the hunters can do it too. The most common mistake that people make in the field when we're talking temperatures below zero, is wearing cotton underwear. Cotton underwear absorbs moisture, and moisture's a killer. And the moisture's what's going to keep you cold in the field. If you're hunting at thirty below weather, get rid of the cotton. Have no cotton in your garments whatsoever until you get to your outer coats. And when you're walking around in the field, even if it's thirty below out, your armpits and your groin area is going to produce moisture because that's where the most of your heat is generated in your body. By using pantyhose in that area, or hosiery, that hosiery will actually take that heat and pipeline it right down your legs down to your toes."
