"This is the standard relaxation therapy for the outer and upper thigh. Again starting with the leg flat on the table, do your initial assessment. Muscle tone, skin tone, help to relax the person that you are working on, some gentle effleurage. The outside of the leg contains a specific muscle and tendon group known as tensor fasciae latae. It's a very important muscle because it runs all the way from the, above the hip joint, over the hip joint, down the outside of the leg, and across the knee joint. This muscle group helps stabilize the knee when you are walking and it can be extremely tender in some people. So I go gently on the outside of the leg that way as you work up to the top of the hip and right at the hip bone, right on the front of the body, that attachment can also be tender, so you want to be gentle with the person so as not to tickle them too much. Again this is a big muscle group, you can get into some deep kneading action there. Some good pretrissage, follow it up, pushing everything back into the circulatory system. And that's relaxation therapy for the outer and upper thigh."
