"Hey, how's it going. I'm Bobby Larew. Remember when you were younger and you used to slouch in the chair, and your mom or dad would say, "Stop slouching." Or you used to lean back, and they'd say, "Stop leaning back, you're going to fall." Surprisingly, for diving, they're entirely right. All the things you need in diving are what your mom and dad have been telling you all along. You need good posture. You need good head position. You need to walk with nice, relaxed..and a nice graceful approach. So what I want to do is talk about the starting position when you begin to dive. Start with both feet together, thinking about trying to squeeze your knees and your hips together as you stand on the board. From here, you want to concentrate on your back. Okay? You don't want to lean too far back, you don't want to slouch and bend over forward when you're starting on the diving board. Judges like to see nice, tall posture...shoulders up, back, okay? You want to take your hips, tuck them underneath you a little bit, so you get a nice, straight line in the back. Take your hands and your arms, down by your side, and keep your fingers together, okay? No "spirit" fingers, this isn't cheer leading, we're diving. Keep your fingers together. All those you need to start well in diving."
