on 3/17/2009 Sorry. That not a Halligan (drop forged) but a "Hooligan." Also the adze has a chip, something rarely seen on true Halligan.

Great and effective tool nonetheless.

"One of the most important tools that we carry as a firefighter is known as the halligan tool or the halligan bar. The halligan tool or the halligan bar is comprised of three individual components. The flat part is known as the adds, the curved part is known as the horn, pick or spike, and the fork end which has a curve to it. And that curve is very important when it comes to applying leverage to any forcible leverage situation. The halligan bar should normally be used when applying leverage enabling the forked end to be used to enable to do its work. This will provide the most amount of leverage for this type of tool. In areas where there is poor visibility, where a firefighter can't see to strike this tool with an axe or a sledge hammer, the adds technique can be employed where it's out of the way of the swinging firefighter. The adds technique is very effective in tight situations where there is not enough room to strike this tool or in poor visibility conditions whenever somebody can't see to strike this tool with the axe or sledgehammer. The adds technique does not afford much leverage as the fork technique but it's maybe the only technique available to us depending on the situation that we are faced with as a firefighter. The halligan tool, very important tool to carry as a firefighter."
