"I am here today to demonstrate some samurai sword techniques and this is the traditional Japanese wear. Essentially I'm in a karate uniform and what is called a hakama. All of these were really simple wear that even the peasants had in Japan in fetal era. Again this karate uniform was just a simple piece of clothing. Always the right hand side goes in. Everybody in Japan is right handed. This comes in over the top and just like a pair of pajamas essentially. They have a pair of pants. You could, they're very simple a draw string at the beginning, a draw string at the waist and this is essentially what a peasant would wear. They would have some sort of a belt that would maintain this and keep it taut. The hakama was a little bit more traditional, a little bit more formal and would be worn for several different reasons. One for ceremony but it has often been told when dealing with sword work that based on your stance this would also give you a little bit of covering over your feet so that your opponent would not know exactly what you were doing so this is essentially the old fetal wear of Japan. Again the dogie or the karate uniform is peasant wear and the hakama would be probably a little bit more associated with the true samurai."
