"Hello, I'm Dr. Miguel Rodriguez. I'm a Gastroenterologist with Miami Gastroenterology Consultants in Miami, Florida. The earliest symptoms of chronic reflux disease will be pain; usually the lower part of the sternum right where the bone ends and sorts of the center of the abdomen. That will be the most common complain. This pain will likely to move around, sometimes it will move up the chest or it will move to the side. It's important to make sure that this is not a manifestation of heart disease when this is present and if there is no history of heart disease then you need to suspect the possibility of reflux. Others will be a continues burping; a burping with a sensation of acid in the mouth as well chronic cough and to the most severe ones would be of course, bleeding."
