"Hello! I'm Dr. Miguel Rodriguez. I'm a gastroenterologist at Miami Gastroenterology Consultants in Miami, Florida. Yeah, in the way that we test for acid reflux will essentially, if it's a mild case, will go on our clinical history and we'll do what we call a therapeutic trial. We ini, start the patient on a medication that is used to treat acid reflux and see if the symptoms go away. If that's not the case, then the patient will require other studies. The most common will be an endoscopy that is the introduction of a light to, a camera through the mouth under sedation, to see if there is a structural damage to the esophagus or the stomach. We can also do biopsies and assess how severe the tissue has been damage, and then if in case that there are more severe we can even able to measure the acid exposure time that the patient may have during the day, and make some determinations based on that information."
