"Hi, this is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg with Miami Dog Training in Miami, Florida. When we're talking about the history of the miniature Dachshund we gotta understand where the Dachshund actually comes from. So the original Dachshund, you know it's a German dog, dachs meaning badger and hund meaning hound. The original Dachshunds were larger dogs, larger even than the regular Dachshund of today but clearly larger than the miniature Dachshund. Now it doesn't matter what size that Dachshund is they are and can be ferocious predators. And they were created by the Germans to go in to a badger's home, kill them and take them out. That's why the long skinny body, that's so they can go right in to a badger's den easily go in to the you know in to the den, fight, have room and take out their prey to the hunter. So, you know the mini Dachshund, doesn't matter how big or small they are they still are amazing predators. The mini Dachshund is a cute little dog, sometimes they can be a little barky, but overall nice little dogs, you know also known as wiener dogs, for those who don't know. Because that the Dachshund is a conger dysplastic breed meaning that their again that their legs are bowed out just a little bit, the long bones in their legs. You know they, it would be a good idea to not over exercise them as young dogs. But rather give them, give their body a chance to heal and set properly and firmly before, you know you are going to really exercise the heck out of them. Also, something to consider with the mini Dachshund is that their metabolism should slow down as they start to reach maturity and start to come in to an adult metabolism. So, and as well a lot of times an issue with these dogs an be that people over water them or over feed them causing obesity and too much of having to go to the bathroom. So, if that does occur, just remember the dog's bladder is about the size of a shot glass, so don't over water."
