"The effects of Spina Bifida can cause complete or partial paralysis of the legs. It's caused by an incomplete closure of the neural tube, which is at the bottom of the spine. This can be closed surgically by surgeons either while the baby is in the womb, as a fetus, or after the baby is born. Conventional medicine finds that there's not a real good response to before and after closing the spine in the motor control. We found combining holistic medicine and conventional medicine with sensory stimulation, we had two babies the last five years walk out of our office the last treatment. There is a definite link with the deficiency of folic acid intake of the mother during pregnancy that will effect the neural tube closing while the baby is a fetus. It's very important that the mother take nutritionals, her vitamins, pre-natal vitamins especially, while she's pregnant. Some of the effects of Spina Bifida will be apparent. There will be a hole in the back to where you can see part of the spine, or deep in to the muscle layers, and that would need to be closed by a surgeon. Sometimes it's Occulta, you don't see on the outside surface of the baby that the spine is open. This can be determines by x-ray. There will be a noticeable change in the function between the arms and the legs. The arms may be active in the baby, and the legs not active. So this needs to be examined to see if there is Spina Bifida."
