"Hi I'm Dr. David Thomas. I'm a practicing psychotherapist with the Whitford Thomas Group in Tampa, Florida here to discuss the different types of sleeping disorders. I am going to put sleeping disorders in four areas and there is lots of sleeping disorders and kind of some interesting ones but the ones we tend to see the most are insomnia, narcolepsy, night terror and sleepwalking. When we talk about insomnia, insomnia generally speaking is the difficulty going to sleep or your sleep patterns are effected. Narcolepsy is a sleeping disorder that is characterized by difficulty sleeping at kind of inappropriate times often times sleeping during the day and not at night. It certainly can be sleeping at various kind of times when most people wouldn't be sleeping. A night terror is kind of an interesting sleeping disorder because it mimics terror and that is why it is called night terror and that is kind of abrupt awakening in the middle of the night with this very significant intense sense of terror. It is not really precipitated by anything it just is kind of an awakening that is extremely fearful for folks and of course sleepwalking can occur at all ages but sleepwalking kind of describes what it is that you get up and you are involved in normal activities around your home. Some people even leave the home but you are actually in a sleep state so you don't have any memory of your behaviors during this time. So those are the four major ones. There are lots of sleep disorders but those are the ones that are more common that we see in individuals. I hope this information has been helpful. From Tampa, Florida I'm Dr. David Thomas."
