"Hi, my name is Bob Lanter. Today, we're going to talk about vocational training and certification. Most people do not know that the nation currently has a workforce development system available in local communities and cities throughout the state and country. These this workforce development system is organized into workforce development boards which oversee vocational training and certification opportunities in local communities. Vocational training simply is training in work related subjects. What folks can do is they can come to the nearest one-stop career center; go in, say they're interested in getting skills in a different occupation or training. The one-stop career centers will put them through an assessment process where they'll take a look at your skills, your abilities, your aptitudes, and they'll take a look at the type of work that you'll be able to do with your current skills, and the type of training needed in between your current skills and what's needed at the workplace. After that, they'll put you in touch with a variety of occupational trainings, anything from truck driving to nurse's aide, to computer skills, customer service. It's a wide, wide range of opportunities available to you at the one-stop career centers. In order to find out about the one-stop career center nearest you can call 1-800-411HIRE, or you can go to eastbayworks.org. And that's a little bit about vocational training and certification opportunities near you."
