"My name is Claire Marchiano and I'm going to be speaking with you about career options for education majors. And I feel like I am a living example of that. I have a Masters in Education and did work in schools, both Intermediate and High Schools for several years. I also taught in a P Score for several years. But what I'm doing now, I consider is education. I am a career center coordinator at One Stop Career Center in Concord, California and I feel I use the full range of my educational skills in this position. I give workshops, I train staff and perhaps most importantly, I work with individual people who are in career transition. Teaching them how to use the tools that are out there and drawing out of them the best that is in them. So they can go forward and find a career. And that's what all education is about, is pulling out of people. Not just giving them information, although that's incredibly important, but also drawing out. So education can of course, be in schools, in high schools, elementary schools, it can also be in adult schools. There is a range of opportunities in adult schools and of course, higher education. In addition, education can sometimes be called training. If you are speaking in the business framework, they often talk about training people who are trainers. And that's a very desirable field and a background in education can of course, lead to that. Other opportunities can be in non-profits, working with different populations to again draw out of those people, the best that is in them. So that they can transition to the life that they need to lead. So again, if you're looking for opportunities in education, you would look of course, to school districts, recreation departments, community colleges. But also don't forget the non-profits. And if you want to go in the business sector, then of course, any employer who offers to training staff can also be your employer. And so then, once again, this is my summary for career options for education majors."
